A-Z of Secret Dundee: The Ship Inn
The Ship Inn, as the name suggests, enjoys a prime waterside location in Broughty Ferry right next to the lifeboat station.
It was established in 1847 and its dark panelled walls and nautical antiques and mementoes add to the cosy, old-world charm.
Enjoying a sea view with your favourite tipple makes for the perfect afternoon
Large alcove window seat areas are the prime spots. Bagging one of these and enjoying a sea view with your favourite tipple makes for the perfect afternoon – especially after a bracing walk along the beach. Always busy with a mixture of friendly locals and tourists, the bar offers terrifically tasty bar meals with the emphasis very much on seafood – their portion of haddock and chips has to be seen to be believed! There is some outdoor seating in summer so you can top up your tan and in winter they serve delicious hot mulled wine and cider. Their upmarket Waterfront restaurant is directly above if you feel like splashing out after a couple of shandies.
