When it comes to cream cakes, F&D’s are the crème de la crème.

Billing themselves as a boulangerie, patisserie, confiserie and chocolaterie, this fifth generation Fife based company have been making Dundonians drool over their coffee towers and Devon slices for decades.

Their main Dundee branch has a small tearoom where you can nibble your freshly cut sandwiches and sip your Earl Grey. But it’s the cakes – all packaged in their iconic F&D cakeboxes – that locals make the pilgrimage for.

Over the water in St Andrews, the innovative firm have installed the UK’s first 24 hour hot pie vending machine for students with the munchies. As well as pies the machine sells fudge doughnuts and apple tarts. A Dundee automatic “peh” machine must surely be in the pipeline…
