Visible Cinema
The first monthly film club for deaf and hard of hearing audiences launches this week in Glasgow.
Visible Cinema will host its premier captioned screening for the club on Tuesday, March 24 in a new initiative at Glasgow Film Theatre.
In partnership with Film Hub Scotland and Solar Bear, the aim of the monthly club is to bring awareness to the limited cinema access for those who are deaf or hard of hearing, and also to provide a relaxed and welcoming environment for them to enjoy a range of films.
The opening night with feature Bennett Miller’s film Foxcatcher, starring Steve Carell, Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo.
850,000 people are deaf or have hearing loss in Scotland so this new venture will be a welcome diary date for many.
Visible Cinema will run for a trial period of 10 months, and includes captioned, subtitled and British Sign Language (BSL) interpreted screenings, followed by a post -film discussion by trained staff members.
It will be the first initiative of its kind in Scotland, and launches at 6 pm on Tuesday, March 24.
