A-Z of Secret Inverness-shire: P
Prehistoric Cookery!
Fancy a weekend spent learning prehistoric cookery techniques with two archaeologists?
Then look out your Tomb Raider hat and follow us! Wild Rose Escapes run their courses from Crochail Wood, – 100 acres of forest which is home to much wildlife, including red squirrels and pine martins.
Over the weekend you’ll forage for greens and herbs during the day, cook a wild lunch and prepare an evening feast on Saturday night. Cookery techniques include hot stones and pit cooking.
After digging your pit, you’ll wrap your meat in dough and bury it under hot stones and earth before digging up your delicious feast around four hours later! There’s also outdoor bread baking, preparing clay-baked fish and making lashings of home-made ginger beer!
