Scotstyle Top Ten: Finalist Ten
Pier Arts Centre, Stromness
The 5-star Art Gallery and Museum in Stromness, Orkney, balances the modern and traditional styles.
In 2007, Reiach and Hall Architects sympathetically extended the original listed buildings and pier to join with a new purpose-built space, vastly improving the facilities while maintaining the historic charm of the original Pier Arts Centre at the same time.
The construction won the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland’s Doolan Award for the Best Building in Scotland 2007.
