Scotland’s first Alpine Coaster has opened at the Midlothian Snowsports Centre and we went along for a ride.

After officially opening last month, this brand new attraction has been quick to pick up momentum with visitors!

The 980 metre long track takes riders one by one on a winding downhill adventure and is a first for Scotland.

Located at the Midlothian Snowsports Centre in Hillend, it’s the longest of its kind in the UK, and it’s expected to attract up to 150,000 visitors per year.

The ride is interactive, so you will be able to control the speed, which hits a maximum of 28mph.

The attraction officially opened to the public on Saturday, September 14.

The coaster is part of the Destination Hillend project and completes Phase one. The project aim is to “build a year-round, family-orientated, multi-activity leisure attraction to improve and safeguard the future of Midlothian Snowsports Centre.”

Features Journalist, Mairi Hughes has a go on Scotland’s first Alpine Coaster

The Scots Mag’s Mairi Hughes had her turn on the coaster and she loved it!

She says, “Scotland’s first alpine coaster is a great day out for kids and adults alike!

“Levers on the coaster’s carts allow riders to be in control of their speed, which hits a maximum of 28mph, making the ride suitable for both thrill seekers and those who prefer a more leisurely ride to take in the views over Edinburgh.”
