Kisimul Castle
As far as location goes, Kisimul is just about as dramatically
picturesque as you can get.
Standing protectively dominant over Castlebay, the island fortress has been a stronghold for the Clan MacNeil since the 11th Century.
Sunrise and sunset photos of the castle from the village can be spectacular, but even better is the view over the bay throughout the ascent of Heaval, Barra’s highest point.
Only accessible via a 2 minute boat journey from the Castlebay pier, the interior is interesting without boasting the wow factor of others mentioned in this list. But for looks alone, Kisimul has to be on the list.
