Crathes Castle
A beautiful 16th-Century building in the stately-home mould, Crathes Castle is one of the many grand buildings to be found on the East Coast.
The intricate and distinctive painted ceilings are a highlight of a wander around the castle as are the views over the tranquil Royal Deeside countryside.
You can also see the impressive Horn of Leys, a gift to Alexander de Burnard by Robert the Bruce.
A very popular spot for families around 30 minutes outside of Aberdeen, Crathes boasts 240 hectares of grounds making it ideal for woodland walks and nature spotting.
