A-Z of Secret Inverness-shire: B
The Beermoth
We’ll admit that the name might not suggest it, but a stay at the Beermoth could well be the most romantic place you’ve ever laid your head.
The Beermoth is a restored 1954 Commer Fire Service truck that’s been converted into a totally quirky B&B at only £68 per night for two. The one-bed, deluxe canvas tent on wheels can be found in the grounds of Inshriach House, four miles from Aviemore in the Cairngorm National Park.
The Beermoth was rescued from the Manston Fire museum in Kent by Inshiarach House’s owner Walter Micklethwait. He has up-cycled it to within an inch of its life, adding an oak parquet floor, a tiny kitchen, a wood burning stove, a Victorian double bed and a side panel that rolls up to offer amazing views of the surrounding countryside.
If you don’t manage to bag the Beermoth, there are also a Tardis-like yurt and cute shepherd’s hut for rent in the grounds of the Edwardian house. Walter has recently added a riverside sauna and hot tub made from an old horsebox. Both can be reached by boat. You can even pop over to his very own gin distillery which was voted Channel 4’s 2015 Shed of The Year!
