Edinburgh’s New Open Air Market
Edinburgh will soon welcome the city’s first ever contactless open air market when Neighbourgood Market opens this July
The Neighbourgood Market located at The Grande Club in Stockbridge will invite food operators and restaurants from the area to utilise their stunning open air market ground and provide a safe and dynamic platform for local businesses and traders to sell products.
The Grange Club and the team behind The Neighbourgood Market have reached agreement on the use of the land for the new marketplace that will open on Wednesday July 15.
It is hoped that the venture will provide an avenue for local businesses to get up and running post-lockdown. The market will be located on a section of the grounds at The Grange Club in Stockbridge, with dedicated access via Portgower Place.
Neighbourgood Market will offer a varied selection of different food and drink operators in one place and will be a 100% contactless site. One-way demarcated walkways and designated circular seating zones for small groups to gather and socialise will be in place. There are various examples of this system working well in other big cities around the world and the team from Neighbourgood Market will replicate this set up for Edinburgh.

The duo behind The Neighbourgood Market concept, Preston Mommsen and Edward Wilson, commented:
“We are really excited to bring this fresh and uplifting concept to the Stockbridge and wider Edinburgh community. There’s no doubt that it’s been a tough few months for everyone during lockdown – we’re delighted that we are now able to provide a vibrant platform for people to socialise safely once again, all while enjoying some of Edinburgh’s finest food and drink offering.”
Operators having secured partnership agreements with Izettle and Deliveroo to provide contactless payment and pre-order systems for the market. The market is now fully let, having attracted some popular Edinburgh based brands, including Bross Bagels, Mana Poke Bowls, Mimis Bakery, Brew Lab, Innis and Gunn and Edinburgh Gin. Other vendors on site will include Casa Roble, Lucas Ice Cream, The Peruvian, Screaming Peacock, Rost, Mint, Caravan of Courage, Don’t Tell Mama, Lost Orchards, Good Brothers Wine Bar and Prosecco Boys. Tribe Yoga will also be hosting a range of outdoor classes on site as soon as permitted.
Gordon Tolland, Grange Club Secretary said: “It has been a very difficult few months for most people and so The Grange is absolutely delighted to support this excellent venture. As well as providing some much-needed cheer, it will also be a welcome boost for the local economy. Hopefully the weather will be kind so that both residents and visitors can experience Stockbridge at its very best.”
The health and safety of visitors to The Neighbourgood Market is paramount, and the events will be carefully managed to ensure that social distancing is upheld and the strict hygiene measures in place are adhered to. Visitors should ideally bring their own face masks and (as per government guidelines) if you’re not feeling well, please stay home and self-isolate.
The Neighbourgood Market will run weekly, Wednesday to Sunday beginning Wednesday July 15. The trading hours will be 12:00pm until 19:00pm.
