World Pipe Band Championships!
Glasgow Green, August 17 – 18
Also known as “The Worlds”, the event involves 8000 pipers and drummers, all competing for the coveted trophy. Current champions, Inverary and District Pipe Band, face tough competition from home and abroad.
Art Early
Edinburgh, Saturday August 18
This Edinburgh Art Festival event is aimed at children and families, with workshops tied into exhibitions at the Dovecot and Talbot Rice galleries. The event finishes with a picnic in the university’s Old College quad.
Purvai 2018
Stornoway, until August 21
The arts festival gets underway in Stornoway this weekend with a diverse programme of events celebrating the connections between South Asia and the Outer Hebrides. The headline event will be a “Summer Evening of Indian Raag” at An Lanntair tonight; other celebrations include a Purvai Festival Day tomorrow.

St Vincent’s Chapel. August 18
Music from this amateur choir, whose music reaches far beyond that status. Based in St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral, they’re performing as part of St Vincent’s Festival of Sacred Art.
