Hermit’s Castle, Achmelvich
Reputedly Europe’s smallest castle, this one-man dwelling is known locally as Hermit’s Castle. The poured concrete building is well camouflaged in the surrounding rocks, and wouldn’t look out of place on Tattoine in Star Wars.
It was built in the 1950s by English architect David Scott, who spent only one weekend in his completed castle after spending months building it!
The single-roomed building has been abandoned since then, and finds a use from time to time as a bothy for passing hikers.
