A-Z of Secret Edinburgh: Falko Konditormeister
There can’t be many places in Scotland where you can simultaneously learn German and eat cake, but you can in stylish Bruntsfield bakery, Falko Konditormeister.
Germanborn owner, Falko Burkert, is a Konditormeister – or master confectioner – with nine year’s training. He has turned this small but perfectly formed Kaffehaus into a gourmand’s delight, selling the best apple strudel, black forest gateau, pretzels and sourdough this side of Tauentzienstrasse!
Pick up a picnic and head to the Meadows
Seats are always at a premium here but there’s an excellent carry-out service. In summer, locals pick up a picnic and head to the nearby Meadows to soak up sun and sauerkraut.
The café also runs conversational German classes every Wednesday.
Falko Konditormeister, 185 Bruntsfield Place, Edinburgh, EH10 4DG. Open 9am-6pm (9.30am Sunday). Shut Monday and Tuesday. Dogs welcome.
