A-Z of Secret Glasgow: Jaconelli’s

Café D’Jaconelli is a perfect example of that Scottish/Italian combination of fry-ups and ice cream.

Very little has changed in this wonderful Maryhill café in over 90 years.

A regular stream of loyal customers slide into the red, leatherette booths and listen to the old-school jukebox while enjoying a cooked breakfast, macca and chips or maybe just a moreish milky coffee.

Their made on the premises vanilla ice cream is also famous – served up in sensational sundaes. They even designed a special one for Billy Connolly when he popped in. With its old world charm it’s not surprising to discover that the café has featured in many TV shows and movies including Trainspotting.

There’s even a traditional sweetie counter with glass jars of traditional favourites on offer. They just don’t make places like this anymore – go along and take your camera and some jukebox money.

Open: Mon –Fri 9am – 8pm. Sat & Sun 9am – 8.30pm.  Address:  Cafe D’Jaconelli, 570 Maryhill Road, G20 7EE
